Wybrane aspekty akwizycji języka obcego

The purpose of this course is:

• to equip students with the knowledge of basic theories and concepts of first and second language acquisition

• to get the students acquainted with implications of SLA theories for language education

• to get the students acquainted with factors influencing the route, rate and effects of the language learning process

• to enable the students to analyze and evaluate language learning strategies and language teaching methods

• to get the students acquainted with the English and Polish metalanguage enabling them to read and discuss professional writings in the field of SLA, and language education

At the end of the course the student should be able to:

• to understand terminology related to language learning, teaching and acquisition.

• to know traditional and alternative approaches and methods to language teaching.

• to know a range of issues connected to theories of language acquisition, multilingualism, bilingualism and monolingualism

• to be able to analyze problems of multilingualism and foreign language acquisition

2/skills

• to be able to review the major views on first and second language acquisition.

• to able to select and apply appropriate methods and tools for individual study

• to communicate on specialized topics relating to monolingualism, bilingualism, language learning and acquisition

3/social attitudes

• to challenge and overcome negative stereotypes in the area of foreign language methodology across different countries

• to think and act creatively and with sensitivity to other cultures while investigating second language development
