Wykład ogólnouniwersytecki - From the Union of Lublin to the European Union: Lublin throughout the Ages

The lecture is a basic outline of the history of Lublin from pre-historic times to the present. Lublin has been continually settled since the sixth century, but its recorded history as such dates from the establishment of the Polish state under the Piast dynasty, of which it became a part in the tenth century. The outline follows the development of the city from that early period, charting milestones such as its gaining municipal rights in 1317, its role in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, during the Partitions of Poland, the interwar period and the rebirth of the Polish independent state, the Second World War and under Communism, as well as its development in the current independent state of Poland. The lecture will discuss the city’s political, social, religious and cultural history.
